Identify technology gaps and secure support for developing, piloting and showcasing potential solutions to the net zero challenge
Aims
- Share, promote and bring together technology opportunities for energy transition
- Engage with key industry stakeholders to understand, influence and remove barriers to net zero enabling technologies.
The North Sea Transition workstream is focused on 3 theme areas: emissions reduction, floating offshore wind and carbon capture and storage:
Emissions Reduction
Floating Offshore Wind
Carbon Capture and Storage
Emissions Reduction
Emission Reduction Technology Roadmap completed Q1 2025 in collaboration with Accelerate Deployment workstream, Asset Stewardship Task Force, Emissions Reduction Action Plan (ERAP) subgroup, OEUK Decarbonisation Forum and OEUK Atmospherics group.
Floating Offshore Wind
Four areas scoped: FOW foundation design, in-situ main component exchange, subsea power hubs, novel anchor solutions. Assessment of Floating Wind Turbine Foundations for North Sea Conditions report completed Q2 2025.
Carbon Capture and Storage
Four themes: Measurement, Monitoring & Verification, Site Characterization, Wells & Injection Systems, Subsea Transportation.
Carbon Storage Monitoring Technology Showcase held on 29th October 2024 with presentations from 12 carbon storage operators from the UK and international basins, who shared CCS project experience and MMV expectations. 20 leading technology suppliers showcased their C02 monitoring solutions.
