The Non-Intrusive Inspection Field Trial Accelerator (NIIFTA) aims to accelerate the piloting and testing of non-intrusive inspection technologies more quickly, and at lower cost and level of risk in comparison to what would otherwise be incurred in offshore environment.

NIIFTA is a “Technology Leadership Board” initiative with Kellas Midstream as the industry lead, involving collaboration from NSTA (Contributor) and the Net Zero Technology Centre (NZTC) and comprising of several onshore terminal operators.

NIIFTA launched a call to discover innovative corrosion under insulation (CUI) solutions

Offering technology developers the chance to test their technology in a real-world environment. The initial two selected developers (Fluves & Subtera) will field trial their equipment on onshore terminals operated by one of the NIIFTA members. Trials to happen this summer, to be followed with ~10 technologies per year thereafter at multiple onshore terminals.

A third party consultant will deliver the following scope

Design appropriate trial programmes and rigorous structure for the field trials to ensure high quality output is generated from any testing work done.
Prepare two base templates to cover the following cases, allowing for a degree of customisation for each specific technology trial.
Identify/detect corrosion through any insulation and cladding.
Identify/detect moisture in insulation.
Develop an oversight plan and reporting template for recording and reporting results.
Some oversight and reporting of trials to ensure that the results obtained are credible and valid for use by others, including the HSE.
