TECHNOLOGY LEADERSHIP BOARD: MEMBERSHIP
The Technology Leadership Board represents a cross-section of industry and includes oil & gas and renewables operators, suppliers, technology & research organisations and government.
Founded his first business in 1985. Now a non-executive with interests in renewable energy, telecoms, defence and marine industries. Melfort has focused on innovation and business – university engagement to develop market ready technology solutions in engineering. With a number of public and private roles he is focused on the industrial application of research and innovation. A fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh and Court member of the University of Strathclyde, Melfort co-chairs the Scottish Government Energy Transition board.
Clara Altobell is Vice President for ESG and Business Innovation at Serica Energy. She has over twenty-five years’ experience in the upstream oil and gas industry, starting out as a petroleum engineer, working globally and managing many different aspects of the industry. More recently her focus has been closer to home in the UK North Sea, with Serica’s Erskine, Bruce, Keith and Rhum fields. With her role in ESG and business innovations, Clara is now helping to steer Serica through the energy transition, looking at ways to reduce emissions and make a positive ESG impact. Clara holds an MSc in Petroleum Engineering from Imperial College, London and is a fellow of the Energy Institute.
Myrtle Dawes is Solution Centre Director at the Net Zero Technology Centre where she leads development of technology for net zero in the energy sector. A Chartered engineer, Myrtle is an established leader with extensive experience in the energy sector. Respected as a prominent voice on the energy transition, she began her career 30 years ago as an offshore engineer, before delivering on leadership roles in engineering, project management and technology.
Steve is Head of Digital for Petrofac’s Asset Solutions and New Energy Services businesses. He has over 20 years’ experience in the Oil and Gas industry working in a number of senior roles involving operational readiness, optimisation of performance, reliability and integrity management. Currently focused on enabling the enhancement of operations and services through the adoption of technology and its integration into the heart of his company’s service delivery, Steve has been integral to the creation of Petrofac’s digitalisation strategy globally.
After graduating in 1993, Dave initially worked Offshore in Commissioning Services, transitioning to Platform Process Engineer by 2002. Development Engineering positions followed, joining Total E&P UK in 2009, where Dave held the role of West of Shetland Development Lead. Expatriation to Paris offered the position of Project Director New Ventures, before returning to Aberdeen in 2016 as Head of Technology Innovation, followed by 18 months secondment during 2020/21 with the NSTA/TLB.
Esther is GM Transformation for Shell U.K. Upstream leading the business and cultural improvement programmes to deliver competitive outcomes. She has over 15 years’ experience in the Oil and Gas industry working in Engineering, Production Operations, Development and Asset Management leadership roles.
Angus originally studied Engineering at the University of Aberdeen, before completing a PhD in Artificial Intelligence applied to predictive maintenance. A career of over 20 years in the oil industry focused largely around applying new technology across large capital projects and operations and maintenance. Prior to joining SSE, Angus was Head of IT Europe for TAQA. Angus joined SSE in 2020 as CIO for their Renewables, Thermal and Energy Portfolio Management businesses.
Dr Kirsten Oliver has 20 years’ experience providing technical solutions to the energy sector both in the UK and overseas. She has strong technical and commercial skills in asset integrity, corrosion management and data handling. Kirsten has worked within service companies and consultancy groups as well secondments into operators for technology implementation activities. She is currently Technical Consulting Director for Worley Offshore Energy Group in the UK.
Senior Policy Officer/Deputy Head at the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS)
With over 20 years' experience in the Oil & Gas industry which has taken him to various countries including Norway, Denmark, US and Canada, Dushyant joined bp in 2009 and has held leadership positions in the areas of Digital, Performance and Process Improvement. Dushyant has a degree in Computer Engineering from Queen Mary College, University of London and Post graduate qualifications in Senior Management and Strategy. He is currently bp’s Business Transformation Lead for the North Sea.
Darren is the Chief Technical Officer at Repsol Sinopec Resources UK. He has over 25 years' experience in the energy sector in the UK and overseas, including 15 years with BG Group. He holds an MEng (Hons) in Chemical Engineering, an MBA, and is a Fellow of the Institution of Chemical Engineers.
Kevin started as an offshore service apprentice with Halliburton, through to senior leadership roles spanning over twenty years, eight of those spent overseas in the oil & gas sector. He currently leads on all economic development activities in Oil & Gas Transition, Energy Supply Chain and CCUS for Scottish Enterprise.
